Your reviews, and your replies to them, are read by more than customers. AI assistants can read them too when someone asks who to hire. Margin & Mark helps owner-led companies in Omaha and Memphis understand how their reviews and review replies shape what AI assistants say about them.

You wrote that reply at 10 p.m. You were polite. You were measured. You did not say any of the things you said out loud to the dog first.

You wrote it for the next customer scrolling past. That customer still exists. They have company.

What changed. More people now ask an AI assistant the question they used to type into a search bar: who should I hire for bookkeeping in Omaha, which firm is good with small businesses, who actually calls back. The assistant answers from what it can find about you. Your website. Your listings. And the part of the internet you didn't write: your reviews.

What your reviews are saying. Read your last twenty reviews and ignore the stars. Look for the words that repeat. "Responsive." "Thorough." "Slow to call back." "Explained everything." Those repeated words are how strangers describe you, and they're the easiest thing for anyone, human or not, to summarize.

What your replies are saying. A reply is the only part of the review section you write yourself. A calm answer with a specific fix reads as competence. A defensive answer reads as a pattern, even if it was a one-time bad day. The reply to the guy who was mad about parking in 2022 is still on the job. Make sure it's doing good work.

Four things to do this month.

Read the last twenty. Write down every word that shows up more than twice.

Answer the ones you skipped. Old reviews with no reply look like nobody is home.

Reply like you'll be quoted. Name what happened, what you did about it, and stop there.

Ask happy clients. Let them use their own words. The specific ones are the useful ones.

A defensive reply reads as a pattern, even if it was a one-time bad day.

What we look at. Margin & Mark helps owner-led companies in Omaha and Memphis understand how their reviews and review replies shape what AI assistants say about them. When we run an AI Visibility Snapshot, reviews are one of the first places we look, along with your website, your listings and whether they all describe you the same way. If you'd like to know what an assistant says about your business right now, start with the free Snapshot.
